This one’s a bit of a talky vlog, but hopefully it’s informative about my thoughts on using the Zhiyun-Tech Crane 3 Axis stabiliser. Skip to 9:25 if you want to see the sample footage!

The Zhiyun Crane 3-axis gimbal was sent to me for purposes of reviewing the product and sharing my honest opinion publicly. Zhiyun have had no editorial control over this content.
Featuring scenes around Sydney, Australia, I tested the gimbal out with the Sony A7R II. This has been the first time I’ve ever used a motorised stabiliser and I’m keen to see how the industry develops over time, as their popularity is surely going to skyrocket.
I’m still unsure if it’s a “look” that I’m fond of within filmmaking. I think there’s a time and a place for stabilisation, but I don’t think it’s suitable for every clip. Use cases such as moving vehicles would be perfect for these tools and I have no doubt they are more than capable, for a variety of mirrorless cameras.
